The design and build-out of the 8th floor space at NRDC’s New York headquarters, which has achieved a LEED-CI v.2.0 Platinum certification, represented the first stage of implementing the NRDC Master Plan, also developed by Croxton Collaborative. The Master Plan calls for an evolution of the NRDC workplace into a more sustainable, universal plan that increases occupant density while improving well-being. The 8th floor design provides a sustainable exemplar that can be adopted throughout the organization.
The project was one of the first on the East Coast to employ Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), with the contractor and selected sub-contractors brought in during design to provide input on constructability, cost, and the availability of materials. The result is a beautiful new space that encourages collaboration, ‘democratizes window space,’ delivers superior Indoor Air Quality, achieves more energy efficiency than code and achieved the highest LEED-CI rating ever (based on percentage of points achieved).
